Who Writes Chipstrat?

👋 Hi! I’m Austin Lyons, the author of Chipstrat — my home for first-principles thinking about semiconductor business and technology.

I earned a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I published research in nanoelectronics and semiconductor physics under the guidance of Prof. Eric Pop (now at Stanford). I later worked for Intel Corporation in Austin, TX, before my entrepreneurial itch pulled me away to startupland as a software engineer.

My training is technical, but I’m equally interested in the business of semiconductors and have my MBA from the University of Iowa. By day, I work as a product manager for a Silicon Valley company helping John Deere transform farming with autonomy. I’m based in Iowa.
